Youth Retreat 2010
UPDATED INFO as of Thursday, 2/10 @ 6pm
GOOD NEWS: ROADS ARE CLEAR, WEATHER HAS CLEARED
What to Bring: Warm clothes (it will be mid 40s during the day, and low 20s at night), warm sleeping bag (cabins are heated) and extra blankets if you really want to be warm, pillow, toiletries (toothbrush, etc.), towel, gloves, beanie, scarf, POSITIVE ATTITUDE, heart for worship, openness to God's Spirit, NO ipods/gaming consuls! UPDATE: There is a lot of snow on the ground, so please bring two pairs of shoes. If you are planning on hiking Sabbath afternoon, or playing in the snow, a second pair for worship and eating, etc. would be a really good idea. Once your shoes are wet, they're wet for the weekend!!!
Time to Be at Camp: Dinner is the first official meeting, at 6pm. You can arrive any time after 1pm, I will be there to check you in and orient you. Time to Leave on Sunday: We finish between 11am and noon, so please have your rides be ready by around 11am.
Road Conditions: Click here and enter "38" (for highway 38) for current road conditions. Or call 1-800.427.7623. Please remember: CARRY SNOW CHAINS AT ALL TIMES! GOOD NEWS: THE HWY38 IS OPEN PAST CAMP CEDAR FALLS. Gus Soto and myself went to Camp Cedar Falls today to set up some equipment and take materials for Saturday night banquet. Man, a lot of snow on the ground!!! The roads are open still and should stay that way. When driving up the mountain, please drive with care, the snow is melting and it means there are wet patches here and there. Going down the road to Camp Cedar Falls, please take care too. It may be a good idea once there to park above at the office center complex, as the road lower down is a little tough to navigate. If you are driving at night, please drive cautiously up the mountain. My number is (951) 217-6985 and I will have service up at camp, so if you get stuck or run into trouble, please contact me.
Directions:
Click on the map below for directions from the church to Camp Cedar Falls.
Once you get up the mountain on Highway 38, you will reach a small town, Angelus Oaks. Camp Cedar Falls is approximately 3.5 miles after you pass through Angelus Oaks, on the left. Drive slowly in this area, as the turn-off appears very quickly. Camp Cedar Falls will be on the left, so you have to turn to cross traffic. Please, drive slowly down the road to Camp Cedar Falls.
Every year we plan a Winter Retreat that is one of the highlights of our Youth Ministry year. This is a time for worship, silence, friendships new and old, nature, freezing, sitting around the fire, bunk beds & cabins, singing, hot chocolate, snuggling, Saturday night surprise program, small groups, communion, cafeteria food (!), snow chains (maybe) and a whole lot more!
