Church Treasures

Lighthouse Ministries

Welcome to a new feature on the website. Consider this section a treasure hunt, a place to discover more about those we sit next to in church. Musicians who lead us in worship, volunteers who provide our potlucks, manage our media, teach our children, maintain our church. Couples who stay married for decades, parents who birth children, members who use our new wheelchair ramps, people who survive life-threatening accidents. We have almost 2800 such treasures right here in our church family. Come and see who they - who YOU are!

Lighthouse Ministries

We are young adults. In age alone that means 25-35 – post college and fully immersed in "life building." We are defining young adults as more than age based - it is also life-stage based. This is the time when we are fully aware of our place in society as a whole, a world that extends beyond our small (safe) circles of childhood, youth, and family. We are out in "the world," forging our way professionally, relationally, and religiously. This is when we are focused on the developmental tasks of career-building, dating (spouse choosing), and figuring out what the church means to us – beyond our upbringing and our parents, what is church and where are we in it?

We realize that we are not only defined by age. We are also spiritual, emotional, and relational creatures. And sometimes, due to circumstances (career changes, leaving the church / walking with the world vs. with God, divorces, children who came before we were ready and are now growing up, etc.) we have returned to the "young adult" tasks of building – or RE-building life. We are working on the same things of figuring out where we stand in the world, in the church, and in relation to others – these things are not age specific, but instead, stage specific.

Lighthouse Ministry is a space in La Sierra University Church for those who are Life Builders! We are interested in how we can deepen our walk with God as we daily reconcile our "real world" tasks of career, dating, socializing, building home, etc. with who we are as a church group.

To that end, we want to be a place of unconditionally honest conversation, God-inspired always'ness (Grace), life-walking practicality, and just plain fun – the kind of play and fun that happens when God's various people come together and let it all go to find laughter and adventure and joyful communion. We want to talk and share and just hang out. As Jesus had His twelve disciples, we also want to create (for our benefit and yours) a group of people that share life's journey. We want to increase our quality of life by having friends who share accountability and face the problems of life and even the problems of an imperfect church together.

We would like to encourage you to come and be a part of the Lighthouse, either as a keeper (those involved in directing and nurturing the structure of young adult ministry), or as a seeker (those who are searching for their way and occasionally pass through the light of LSUC young adults). We want to have enough options that at least once each week you find yourself in the midst of others who are walking the same life journey you are.

We will work to make Sabbath School (9:30 am on Saturday mornings in Room 30 at LSU church) a place for food (Jennifer's cooking every week and others are bringing milk, juice, bagels, pastries, cereal, ETC!) and Bible / Belief discussions. We are committed to scheduling and showing up for varied Sabbath afternoon activities, Saturday night fun things, and a Sunday afternoon women's Bible study (starting October 5th). There is also a GREAT Wednesday evening mixed-gender (smile!) study group at Stuart and Karen Tyner's house!

No one is an Island, so we'd like for you to join us in deepening what it means to be part of a church family and experience that is sincerely acting as a respite from our day to day and weekday stresses.
