Thailand Mission Trip

Thailand Mission Trip

This year, 2008, the La Sierra University Church is focusing on a major mission trip to Thailand. We have not had a major trip since 2004. The trip is scheduled for July 29 through August 14, 2008. Our goal is to take a large number of La Sierra Academy seniors as an extra senior class trip, and give them the dream trip of their lifetime, along with many of us parents, siblings, and others who love missions.

The building project will be a Vocational Training Center near Chaing Mai Adventist Academy, one hour north of Chiang Mai. The pastor, Pastor Phamor, will bring committed laymen from all over northern Thailand into the Center to learn an occupation (like Paul's tentmaking), which will allow them to make a living while they also do witnessing, giving Bible studies, simple health treatments, health lectures, etc.

The building will cost $30,000. Our church's share is $15,000, of which we still need $11,500. We are also hoping to raise $5000 in order to give each of ten La Sierra Academy seniors a scholarship to help them go ($500 each). The cost is going to be nearly $1800 each to go, which is a lot of money to an academy senior and their families.

We will also be holding medical and dental clinics, and a Week of Prayer at the Academy, with the youth doing music, drama, and testimonies.

We will also, of course, sneak in some touring, seeing the temples, elephant farm, swim in waterfalls, shop at the Night Bazaar, eat Thai food, and spend the last five days seeing Bangkok and then the beaches of southern Thailand. If you are interested in going, email dsmith@lsuchurch.org or call at 951-236-7262.
