SABBATH WORSHIP THIS WEEKEND
1st SERVICE, Friday Night at 8:00 pm
Come and fellowship with us this Friday night in Sierra Vista Chapel. Sam Leonor will be speaking.
LITURGICAL SERVICE, Sabbath at 8:30 am
Anita Oliver, professor and chairperson of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in La Sierra University’s School of Education, will be this week’s homilist. The homily will be based primarily on the Gospel account of Jesus healing a crippled woman in a synagogue (Luke 13:10-17) and will focus on “The Sabbath and Rules.”
Stuart Tyner will be the pastoral host, Paul Mallery will be the service leader, and Marlys Jacobson and Maritza Duran will be the Scripture readers. Fred Davis will be the cantor and Grace Chung will be the organist.
WORSHIP SERVICE, Sabbath at 10:50 am
It's back-to-school week for La Sierra Academy, which means back-to-school Sabbath for us. Please join the Church Family in recognizing and thanking our Academy faculty and staff--most of them joining us for worship this week. Several of our young faculty will lead our service, joined by some incredible students assisting with music. We will call for a special offering for tuition assistance for our Academy students. We have 59 students to help this year. Please mark your offering envelope "Tuition Assistance."
Beginning this Sabbath and lasting until the University students arrive, we have a new sermon series entitled, NEXT. This week Pastor Chris Oberg brings the sermon, entitled, "Sacred Listening." Proverbs 12:15 says, "Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to advice." Think on this passage, won't you, as we move towards the Sabbath.

NEW WORSHIP SERVICES
The La Sierra University Church is fully engaged preparing for our new Sabbath schedule and additional worship experience, to begin on October 2. The staff, elders, deacons, greeters, Sabbath School teachers and leaders, the Worship Committee, Communication Committee, and Media Board all are diligently at work, visioning, planning, and preparing.
Thank you all for the helpful comments and suggestions. Now would be a great time to begin praying that the new schedule will help us meet our strategic goals in reaching new friends in our neighborhoods, helping new students find a spiritual home, and reinvigorating missing members.
The pastors will stay after church next Sabbath, August 28, to discuss the upcoming changes in the Worship Service line up. This is the last official group chat we will have for this conversation.
