Advent Devotions #2
Word for the Week
Joy
Verse for the Week
Luke 2:8-10
Day 1
Read Luke 2:8-10 out loud together.
Day 2
Sing or listen to "Joy to the World" together.
Day 3
Make a mobile to hang somewhere in your house with the letters, J, O, and Y. Decorate each letter with a different picture or symbol of Christmas. Talk about how you will DO joy this Christmas.
Day 4
Make a candle using wax coloring crayons.
1. Cut a plastic bottle or milk carton to the right size.
2. Tie or tape a string to the bottom and tie it to a pencil laid across the opening to hold it in the middle.
3. Melt the crayons in a bowl that is resting on a pot filled with water on the stove. (Much the same as if you were melting chocolate.)
4. Fill the bottle or carton with ice blocks.
5. When the crayons are melted, pour them in the carton/bottle to the appropriate height.
6. Let the wax harden.
7. Take the candle out of the form and trim the wick.
8. Place the candle in a prominent place to remind your child/ren how old things can become new and bring joy to your family.
Day 5
Learn to say "Merry Christmas" in a different language. Talk about why we wish each other a "Merry" Christmas.
